Regional Economic Development Strategy

REDA assisted in the development of a strategy for economic development of Stara Zagora Municipality in partnership with the Community of Down, Northern Ireland, within a project funded by the British Know-How Fund. The agency was a leading partner in the area of economic development and contributed to build a comprehensive strategy for the economic development of the Municipality, completed in September 1999.

Nikolaevo strategy was also developed with the assistance of REDA.

As a result of the accumulated experience and its increased capacity, in the last years REDA has been sought and invited as consultant, not only in the Region of Stara Zagora, but throughout the country, to municipal governments (Nova Zagora - Sliven, Topolovrad - Haskovo, Aytos - Bourgas, Dimovo - Vidin, Dolna Metropolia and Nikopol - Pleven) and business centers or development agencies (Haskovo, Kyustendil, Razgrad, Sliven, etc.).

Identification of Future Training Needs for the Region

Foundation for Entrepreneurship Development partnered with R.E.D.A. and the National Observatory to the Ministry of Education on an extensive research project to identify the future training needs for the workforce in the Stara Zagora Region. The project was implemented in June-October, 1998.

"Exchange of Know-how and Methodology in Creating Favorable Conditions for Implementation of Eco-tourist and Environmental Projects in the Region of Stara Zagora (Bulgaria) in the Perspective of Sustainable Development."

Exchanges Solidarities Territoires, Paris, France and REDA had a pending application for a Phare Partnership grant for a project that resulted in the preparation, by experts, of a thorough ecological, environmental analysis of the current situation, the available resources and the potential for development of eco-tourism in the Region.

Promotion of Stara Zagora Region and a strategy for foreign investment encouragement

REDA has developed of a strategy for foreign investment encouragement in partnership with local governments and private business. The agency prepared information materials and comprehensive presentation of Stara Zagora Region at Bulgarian Investment Forums (October 1997/98/1999), at Europe-Israel Trade & Industry Jubilee Exhibition'98 in Tel-Aviv, Israel; Trade Exhibition in Brescia, Italy, 2000; Investment forums, organized by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Padova and Bologna (1999) and Turin (2000), Italy. The promotion of Stara Zagora Region includes also design and compilation of a brochure for Stara Zagora Region, aimed at attracting foreign investors (in English language) - 3 editions; a brochure (in five languages) to promote tourism in Stara Zagora Region (1997); a CD-ROM promoting Stara Zagora regional economy; post cards of Stara Zagora and the present website.

Sister City Project With The City of Durham, North Carolina, U.S.A.

REDA provided a technical support of the Twinning program between the municipalities of Stara Zagora and Durham, North Carolina. Stara Zagora REDA was main partner in implementing the economic development part of the project - 1997/98.

A catalogue of administrative services, offered to businesses and citizens by city government

The agency made a research and compilation of a catalogue of all administrative services offered to businesses and citizens by city government (April, 1997). This resulted in the idea for the establishment of the first municipal Citizens' Information and Service Center in Bulgaria.
